The new Ferrari collection breaks away from the narrative references explored in recent seasons to recount and elevate the visions, ambitions and emotions that revolve around the Prancing Horse universe of values. While the first fashion show cited the aesthetic codes of the automotive world, setting them in the context of the assembly lines in Maranello, and whereas the second chapter saw the brand landing in Milan with a high-tech and futuristic approach, Ferrari’s third fashion show is staged at the Teatro Lirico in Milan as a symbolic place for representing the stories of man, and as a metaphor for the brand’s human component.

Through a constantly evolving ethical and aesthetic language, Creative Director Rocco Iannone chooses to narrate the dream. This is a dream that Enzo Ferrari made possible and tangible through the milestones, successes and memorable goals achieved as a result of the values that continue to guide the brand in all its expressions. A dream that encapsulates feelings of self-expression, of passion and freedom, of a constant drive towards that which is extraordinary and incredible. Because it is from dreams that new worlds, new stories and new inspirations are conceived, such as those evoked in the art movie “The Dream of Dreamers” with a feminine perspective that stems from the creative conversation between Iannone and the Italian-Canadian photographer and director Floria Sigismondi.

MIX

The season’s inspiration is reflected in a consistent and refined evolution of Ferrari’s style codes. Innovation and material research advance together with fusion to project the wardrobe into a free dimension where mixes and contrasts become an expression of contemporary aesthetics. Tailoring, workwear and racing coexist in the same collection, expressing the different souls of Ferrari. While the brand’s iconic silhouettes are renewed and reinvented to continue the previous season’s experimentation, new elements and lines infuse the look with a distinctive yet casual, cool and relaxed tone.

PALETTE

Just like the styles, shapes and textures, the colours also blend in a coherent and harmonious rhythm, punctuated by groupings of sophisticated monochromes and vibrant patterns. The primary colours of Rosso Le Mans and Giallo Modena are interpreted in their purity, individually addressed but framed by fresh, summery nuances such as light blue, khaki and earthy shades. The graphic motifs range from the visual impact of camouflage to original brush-effect dyes, once again recalling the concept of mixing. The unusual camo print stylises the pop vibe and iconography of Los Angeles through the intense, almost mimetic shades of Californian palm trees.

MATERIALS

The sartorial code explores the naturality of mixes by combining fine fabrics and workwear-derived materials, redefined and enhanced via thorough research into surfaces, processing techniques and refined finishes. Silk, cotton, jacquard wool, jersey and glove leather are combined and alternated throughout the season while maintaining a focus on high-quality Italian craftsmanship. Denim is transformed into an artist’s canvas using an ozone-based illuminating process, while the stitched embroideries are made from a selection of screws and bolts—the same ones used in the assembly of engines— which in this case are sewn together with shiny stones. In addition to creative reinterpretation, Ferrari continues its commitment to current social and environmental issues, advocating the use of low-impact materials and treatments, and working exclusively with certified partners and suppliers who adhere to the major international sustainability standards.

SILHOUETTES

The silhouettes are precise, definitive and at the same time fluid in their fit and layering. The volumes and cuts that have played a special role since the first collection are still present and continue to be transformed through skilful interventions that respect and update Ferrari’s lexicon without ever distorting it. These include the suit, the symbolic garment that more than any other represents the synthesis of performance, style and lifestyle by re-imagining the classic racing garment through the softness of leather, striking colours and metal details with the exclusive ruthenium Chassis finish. The idea of fluidity is expressed in an ultra-sophisticated mix of seemingly opposing elements: oversized dimensions are combined with slim, linear cuts modelled on the anatomy of the body.

The pop shirt is worn over darted trousers, the tailored blazer over a knitted cardigan, the shirt dress under a man’s jacket, and the nappa leather waistcoat is worn as a dress or as a waistcoat. Masculine and feminine aspects converge in an open, unconventional dimension in which garments convey different meanings depending on the wearer. The same approach is repeated in the conception of accessories and leather goods, broadening the proposal through new shapes, materials and colours.

Conceived as a continuation of the conversation that started for winter, of looking at Christian Dior in this 75th anniversary year of the house, here the collection is once more made glorious summer by Kim Jones, the artistic director of men’s collections. We travel in space and time from Paris to the countryside, to Normandy and Granville – Dior’s birthplace and the home of his legendary garden – as well as to Sussex and Charleston, the country residence of the Bloomsbury group artist Duncan Grant.

Once again, personal histories intertwine through the collection, linking the past with the present and the future of the house; from past creative milieus to their influence on present ones.

The changing light and the mutability of the natural environment are reflected in the colour palette of the collection, from the gradation of Dior grays, pinks and pastels, to the utilitarian gardening, walking and fishing, greens and blues. All are employed with a certain well-bred rebellion; an insouciance in clothes and accessories, at once extravagant and practical, formal and informal, that betray a stratification of history but evoke an effortless contemporary existence.

Reclaimed cashmere, double-breasted tailored coats are teamed with tailored shorts in thirties fabrications – with built-in turned-down waistbands – and walking shoes. The new bar jackets continue, made in semi-transparent silk organza, to reveal the strict, traditional masculine construction of the garments underneath; sweeping cotton duster coats are casually slung over tech reflective gilets; Duncan Grant’s lily pond screen (c.1913) punctuates reflective tech fabric and traditional needlepoint; the Dior cannage continues to be used as utilitarian quilting for coats; while Duncan Grant’s sketches are translated as complex yet easeful hand knits.

Smart insouciance together with elegant practicality also produces effortless, everyday luxe in bags and footwear in the collection, belying the complexity of the design process behind both. The atelier together with mystery ranch – a technical, outdoor brand, revered for its work with the rescue services – produces new, practical, compartmentalised saddle bags, rucksacks and belt bags for the collection. The rucksacks, which can be worn with suits, are equipped with detachable waterproof covers and hoods. Embroidered overshoes are paired with Dior carlo derbies.

The new cannage sandals are made in one piece from recycled rubber, while the boots are crafted by assembling two interconnected parts. Each is a feat of technical engineering not usually achieved at a fashion house. Stephen Jones’ inimitable millinery also features high-tech construction with 3d printed ’pergola’ gardening hats layered over baseball caps. The design is one based on the straw gardening hat Duncan Grant wore throughout his life to paint in, combined with the trellis-work of the pergola in monsieur Dior’s garden.

From the very origins of Paco Rabanne, there has always been an obsession with materiality, radical textures, non-organic silhouettes. For Spring Summer 2023, Julien Dossena explores beneath and beyond the surface, subverting perceptions of sensuality and strength. With an intuition towards the future, the collection becomes a sublime projection of femininity in the face of unknown forces.

Metal grates and scaffolding – an echo to one of the earliest Paco Rabanne shows – evoke an underground scene. There is an excitement that stirs, the sense of things on the verge of being shaken up.

Coded references start crossing over into an alluring, hybridised space: grunge flourishes interface with cyber-specific hues of vivid green, violet, blue and red. Fetish-inspired materials such as clear PVC are developed to elevated effect, merged with masculine suiting, or shown as a parka covered in studs like droplets of liquid metal. There are sumptuous and romantic applications of PVC, as well, printed with flowers and panelling classic grain de poudre, or placed atop tapestry fabric. When PVC seamlessly fuses with assemblage, it’s as though the look is changing states, almost morphing.

Latex enters the collection, transforming pieces in unexpected ways. An initial strangeness shifts to sophistication. There are dresses moulded like a second skin and injected with blurring colour as edges ripple. Elsewhere, latex appears fluid and light as silk, a simulacrum for slip dresses and boudoir shorts bordered with intricate incrustations of lace. Latex is imposed upon metal mesh, a duality that advances the emblematic Paco Rabanne material once again.

Slick surfaces are counterbalanced by texture and movement: from a crackled leather coat to silver metallic trousers that retain their creases. Variations on chain mail include modified fringes that seem to disintegrate as they descend. Fringes also appear on frothy tiered skirts that resemble exaggerated tutus.

Notions of bondage assume alternate associations; leather bands and cuffs that wrap the body are worn to empower while eyelets patterned across harnesses attest to handcraft. And for every suggestion of protection – the iconic 1969 assemblage bags are newly shieled by PVC – there are looks that emphasise exposure through fabric and silhouette: gauzy dresses with gradient treatments, a well-defined décolleté, and knits with holes that reveal the skin.

Exaggerated combat boots reinforce a necessary attitude: a readiness for all conditions, a flex of tactical purpose and subculture style. Within this liminal, industrial space, Dossena arrives at a statement that resists reductive description. Here, the elemental aspects of Paco Rabanne are transposed to a reality that is rapidly evolving before our eyes.

Stella McCartney has launched its first High Summer capsule titled ‘Summer Loving’, a warm-weather edit bringing summertime nostalgia into the now. Its inspiration began with a beach dress worn by Stella as a child, featuring a naive red-and-white ‘LOVE YOU’ print that is woven throughout the collection. A complete holiday wardrobe, it includes ready-to-wear, swimwear, eyewear and kid’s wear – crafted from 100% responsible materials.

Hearts and ‘I LOVE YOU’ prints playfully blend romance with resort on easy pieces referencing silhouettes and design details from the brand’s most recent collections. Among them are heart-shaped perforations on crisp forest-friendly viscose linen dresses and shorts sets reinterpreting Spring 2023’s rechilding theme, alongside bias-cut organic cotton skirts and dresses pulling from Summer 2023.

Other key looks include airy organic cotton oversized mesh knits, crochet heart bras and jersey staples featuring iced lolly graphics – paired with embroidered denim jackets and cut-offs in classic washes. Kid’s wear revisits selected ready-to-wear and swimwear pieces in mini-me sizes.

Limited-edition raffia basket bags are crafted by female Hadithi Basket Weavers in Kenya as part of the Ethical Fashion Initiative’s Artisan Fashion social enterprise in Sub-Saharan Africa, gainfully employing over 1,000 people – most of whom are women. These skilled artisans are given dignified working conditions and fair pay, respecting international labour laws and human rights. Made from plant-based materials, the beach bags are kinder to the women who made them, our planet and fellow creatures, with vegan Alter Mat straps, lacing and an iconic logo patch.

New also is an oversized organic cotton beach bag in soft beige. It features contrast black Stella McCartney branding along the sides and cruelty-free Alter Mat handles and trims.

The Skyla boot is reimagined for High Summer as a woven natural raffia heeled mule and platform slide, while the Gaia espadrille wedge is seen in crocheted and heart-printed editions. The vegan Loop trainer celebrates the season and love in all its forms with rainbow lacing and logo details.

Raffia bucket hats feature contrast black heart designs, graphically connected to the High Summer capsule’s love story. This continues with heart-shaped raffia charms in plant-based materials.

Swimwear includes halter cut-out styles in romantic red as well as a familiar ‘Smile’ graphic, remixed as a one-piece in recycled nylon. Bio-acetate eyewear made from natural and renewable materials pays homage to Stella McCartney’s iconic Falabella bag, with edgy cat-eye styles featuring chunky temple chains details and pins in gold.
